Our History

1949

Founded in 1949 as a small print shop in Montreal on Côté Street and quickly specializes in hotel menus and other commercial work.

1950 - 1959

1960 - 1969

In the 1960’s, Ross-Ellis specializes in Music packaging, i.e. record jackets (laminated paper to board).

In 1963, Ross-Ellis moves to a new plant on Ann Street, its home until January 2009.

1970 - 1979

In the early 1970’s, Ross-Ellis innovated by printing direct on board record jackets. Then, innovated again by adding UV coating and slitting in one process.

In the 70’s the market continued to evolve and Ross-Ellis made 8 Track labels and, a short while after, cassette cards.

1980 - 1989

In the mid 80’s, Ross-Ellis started to print CD folders and tray cards. Initially, these were produced by creasing on die cut and folded individually. Later developed a method to fold and slit multiple units on the folding machine.

Ross-Ellis opens a new finishing plant in LaSalle in 1988. Quebec to increase capacity and add to finishing capabilities.

1990 - 1999

In the 90’s, Digipak® became popular and Ross-Ellis obtained a license from AGI Media and purchased a machine to glue trays. A design and sample department was also created to satisfy client demand for custom Digipak® and other board packaging designs.

In 1995 Transcontinental Printing acquires Ross-Ellis.

2000 - 2009

By the mid-2000s, two automatic CD and DVD tray placers were purchased.

Since 2006 Ross-Ellis obtained triple chain of custody certification (FSC, SFI, PEFC) and made available 100% recycled Digipak® trays.

In January 2009, Transcontinental Ross-Ellis celebrated its 60^th year of continuous operation. At the same time, Transcontinental Ross-Ellis consolidates its two plants into a larger, more modern plant in LaSalle, Quebec.

2010 - ...
