Recycled Paper/Board: contains wood fiber from paper or board that has been used before and recuperated from industrial applications or consumer waste.

Recyclable: material that is approved for recycling. (Does not necessarily contain any recycled content.)

Biodegradable: process by which organic substances are broken down by other living organisms such as bacteria, mushrooms and algae.

Post-consumer waste: waste from paper/board products that have completed their usefulness as a consumer item and have been collected through recycling programs. From an environmental-protection perspective, the more post-consumer waste content in a recycled product, the better.

Pre-consumer waste: waste from paper/board that has not passed through the end-user (consumer). Examples: paper trim and scraps that are discarded during the printing process.

Renewable resources: natural resources that are replenished by natural processes at a rate comparable to that of their consumption by humans or other species.

Virgin paper: paper made exclusively from new wood fiber harvested directly from forests. Does not contain any recycled material.

FSC-Certified

By actively seeking and obtaining “Chain of Custody” certification from the FSC® (Forest Stewardship Council®), we have demonstrated our commitment to preserving the natural environment. This certification guarantees that any new fiber in the paper and board we use can be traced to responsibly managed forest operations. The FSC is an international, non-profit organization dedicated to better utilizing, managing, and promoting responsible use of our forests.

SFI-Certified

Transcontinental Ross-Ellis uses paper that is certified as SFI® (Sustainable Forest Initiative®). The chain-of-custody programs ensure that SFI®-certified paper is made from wood from responsibly managed and sustainably harvested forests. The SFI® program is based on the premise that responsible environmental behaviour and sound business decisions can co-exist. SFI® program participants practice sustainable forestry on all the lands they manage. They also influence millions of additional acres through the training of loggers and foresters in best management practices and landowner outreach programs.
